Physiology
In the Pires laboratory we investigate the interplay between neuroinflammation, cerebral blood flow regulation and progression of neurodegenerative diseases. Our main research interest is to identify mechanisms by which neurodegenerative processes affect blood vessels in the brain, and how alterations in blood vessel function speeds up cognitive decline.
Research Interests
The long-term goal of our research is to find new targets for therapies to improve quality of life of patients with chronic diseases that lead to dementia
