The Miller laboratory investigates the function of neural circuits for speech motor control using the zebra finch songbird model. One particular emphasis area is the study of molecular and cellular mechanisms in basal ganglia circuits which contribute to  voice and speech deficits in Parkinson's disease. To do so, we use a variety of pharmacological, genetic, electrophysiological and behavioral approaches.
